June 2011

The correction to last month Bulletin – Shosa-ji should be Shosa-goto. Thanks to Hiroyuki Shioiri Sensei who pointed this out, I learned a new thing again. In my advanced age, not so many people dare to come out to teach me or correct me. I was lucky when my father constantly pointed out wrong things I was doing.

On May 13th, I had a colonoscopy done at Queen's Medical Center. During preparation, the nurse kept asking me if I felt all right or if I had any heart problem. The reason she was asking was that my pulse rate was distinctively low. When I mentioned that I might have athlete's heart because of life long kendo practice, she understood and proceeded for processing. The following day at Dr. Tokeshi's office for my regular check up appointment I asked him about it. His answer was, "Your heart functions well. It does not need work hard like other peoples' hearts. No need to worry about it." Thanks to kendo practices, my health is good. Let us continue to practice kendo to promote good health throughout our lives.
