October 2009
Kenkyu Kai practice is on Friday, Oct. 2nd from 7:30PM at JCCH dojo. Mr. Nakamura informed us that we practice kata for upcoming dan examination. It is disappointing to report that Hisao Imazu Sensei’s visit this month has been cancelled due to unforeseeable circumstances. Kazuyoshi Inoue Sensei represented Fukuoka in Senior Tournament in Hokkaido in September. He got two wins but his team could not advance. Hiro Okusa Sensei in Vancouver will be the President of Canadian Kendo Federation effective Oct. 09 succeeded from Asa Sensei of Toronto. Good luck to Mr. Okusa. Among former Hawaii residents and visitors, Mr. Yu Hagiwara of Nagoya and Ms. Chiaki Miura of Akita have passed 6 dan examination in August. Congratulations. In November we will have 1 kyu and dan examination. Though the date is not been announced, those who wish to take the examination should practice for it. Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation sponsored Tournament will be on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Kent, Washington. James Okada and Kevin Chun who are attending University of Washington will join Team Hawaii there. Mr. Takeshi Kudo, 8 dan, will be staying in Hawaii for a month from sometimes in January 2010. We are anxious to receive practices from him. Our Club fund raise, Zippy’s Chili sale, is in full swing. Thank you very much for those who are helping us selling tickets. Tickets are good now till November 18th. If you can help more, please contact me. We still have lot of tickets left. Seattle Mariner’s outfielder, Ichiro Suzuki, has been continuing to set records in number of hits in a year and his baseball life. This year he was away from games due to his stomach ulcer and leg muscle ailment. Yet, he continue to set new records. The critics observe that his control of physical condition is superior. Thus, he is able to enter the games and continues to make hits. He is a professional. But, we, amateur kendoists, should do same to maintain our good health so that we can accomplish life long kendo practices without much interruption by bad health or injuries.
